Among the major contemporary sculptors, this charming lady was born in 1940 in Vari, Attica (village from which she took her name), as a Greek father (Peter Canellopoulos) and Hungarian mother. It was formed with long years of study and apprenticeship around the world, first in England and then especially in France where, 16 years old, it began to paint. Living in Paris, she became a careful scholar of the different tendencies of sculpture and in particular of Cubism and Surrealism.
From his creative talent are born works full of sensuality, movement and intelligence in which are recognizable the elements of the sculpture of the Maya, the Egyptians, the Olmec of Central America and the traditional forms of the Cyclades, Ancient Greece and the Baroque era. Complete sculptor, Sophia Vari is a deep knowledge of the forms of traditional art and their history. Conscious of the classical artistic tradition, the Greek artist continues to work on form and volume, creating works that harmonize the Renaissance heritage with the search for the artistic avant-gardes of the twentieth century.
