Piero Pizzi Cinnella

In the 1970s he attended Alberto Ziveri’s lectures at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and enrolled in the degree course in Philosophy at La Sapienza University, without finishing his studies. He is involved in this period of conceptual art.

Since the beginning he has participated in the activities of the new avant-garde of La Stanza, a Roman gallery run by a group of artists including Bruno Ceccobelli, Giuseppe Gallo, Stefano Di Stasio. There he held his first solo exhibition in 1977 and a conceptual installation in 1978.

In 1980 he participated in a collective anachronist at the gallery La Tartaruga in Rome.

In 1984, together with Bruno Ceccobelli and Marco Tirelli, he started the Nuova Scuola Romana or Scuola di San Lorenzo at the Pastificio Cerere where Giuseppe Gallo, Gianni Dessì and Nunzio Di Stefano were already operating.

In that period he exhibited figurative paintings at the gallery at the Penthouse in Rome and on numerous occasions at Annina Nosei Gallery in New York[1], Galerie Folker Skulima in Berlin, Galerie Triebold in Basel, works focused on the evocation of the human figure through objects of common use decontextualized, such as furniture, clothing, accessories.

He takes part in numerous events and group exhibitions: Biennale di Parigi e São Paulo del Brasile (1985); Sydney Biennale (1986), XI and XII Quadrennial of Rome (1986 and 1996); Venice Biennale (1988, 1993 and 2011); Istanbul Biennale (1989).

He lives and works in Rome.
